Julia Spinelli refuses to wait. From the moment she met Roman Sonntag, she knew he was
"the one." So what if their families' relationships emulated the Montagues and Capulets?
Who cared if they didn't know every minute detail of the other's life? The continuously
fracturing wedding plans didn't matter more than their love, did they?
After all, Roman had turned the Jersey girl's exile to Fredericksburg, Texas, into one
hot adventure-I'm not referring to meteorological conditions, either. Besides making
her bones melt, he had encouraged, supported and complimented her business acumen as she
built up her father's rundown motel. Moreover, if he'd believe in her enough to become
her business partner, too, her trust fund could help his family's winery again become solvent.
Roman Sonntag loves Julia with all his heart, but he doesn't understand her one iota.
He bought the biggest engagement he could (almost) afford, yet she prefers his grandmother's
hunk of glass? He wants to provide her with a life of luxury, but she has enough money to
buy and sell him how many times over? He's a modern, sophisticated man, so how does she
bring out the Neanderthal attitudes in him?
When true love gets smashed like grapes, will it ferment into vinegar or vintage? You
must read First Love to find out!
The similarity between the protagonists' first names and their Shakespearean counterparts
is the only minor downer in this tale of Murphy's Law meets marital jitters. Ms. Kenner's
characters are awesome! Julia is vibrant and determined; Roman is strong and romantic;
and the secondary characters, especially Julia's parents, sweeten the beautifully entangled
vine. Moreover, the wedding planning tips are outrageous. First Love stands nicely
on its own, but it has whetted my thirst to read the three previous novels in the Bridesmaid
Chronicles. And two more yet to come? There goes my book budget for the rest of the year!
Oh well... Look out Amazon, here I come!
