I'm Watching You
Chicago Series #3

By Karen Rose

" I'm Watching You" by Karen Rose has tastefully straddled the fence between a gripping -hang onto your seats- thriller and a romance of the caliber of Danielle Steel. Rose has spun threads of both genres into a marvelous book that you will not want to put down.

Kristen Mayhew, an Assistant State Attorney, has one of the best win records and a painful past that she prefers remains private. Like all prosecutors, there are some cases that Kristen loses either due to witness fear of further involvement, legal technicalities, or defense attorney craftiness. A serial killer's murder rampage is targeted at those who have been involved in the trials that Kristen has lost. The killer is enacting final justice in cases where the formal legal system has failed, and in many ways, the killer is perceived to be doing good by ridding the city of the "scum of the earth." Abe Reagan and Mia Mitchell are the homicide detectives assigned to the case. Abe, like Kristen, has a painful past, but this case fuels a romance between them that transcends the pain.

In this novel, Karen Rose makes good use of a timeline approach rather than chapters to keep the pace and the suspense in the book at an addictively high level. This approach also helps the reader move seamlessly between the many different perspectives in the book. The reader "sees" the case unfolding from the perspective of Kristen, the serial killer, the police, the victims of the crimes, and the press.

"I'm Watching You" is the third novel written by this author. Her other books are titled, "Don't Tell Me" and "Have You Seen Her?" "I'm Watching You" is a excellent read that I most highly recommend.
