Lovers and Liars

By Josephine Cox

Emily and John are young lovers who have made a commitment to each other. John works on the farm that Emily's parents own and her uncle acts like he owns. Unfortunately, Emily's uncle is a mean and cruel man who wants to drive John away, especially after learning that the young people want to marry. After being beaten several times by Uncle Clem, John leaves to find a way of providing a better life for himself and Emily.

John returns home for a visit and discovers that Emily has a child and believes that she has not waited for him and is married to another man. John then leaves to pursue his own career. Will Emily discover where John is? Will John learn about Emily's family?

Lovers and Liars tears at the heartstrings of readers, who will pull for Emily and John to find each other again. Lovers and Liars could have taken place at anytime and anywhere, since it is the type of romance that has the staying power.
