River
Rising
By
Dorothy Garlock
The
year is 1934 and April Asbury has just moved to Fertile Missouri.
April, a nurse, has taken a job in this small town with a local
doctor. April has no idea the long sad history behind her landlady
Shirley Poole, but will discover it in a surprising way. Shirley's
husband Ron was a serial rapist who fathered eighteen of the towns'
children. Shirley discovered this after Ron's death and puts her
own twisted plan into action.
April
learns to deal with the town busybodies who see April as a threat
to the single men left in the town including the doctor. One town
resident in particular, Joe Jones, might either steal or break April's
heart. She's not sure which she should try to prevent from happening.
While
the book is a romance story there is also an enthralling tale of
the dark side of small town life. This is a place where everybody
knows everybody and their business. April will help Fertile deal
with its secret in a healing way. A very enjoyable read to be found
in River Rising.
