Angie Wilson has met her great aunt Hilda on only two occasions. So she is surprised
to learn that she had inherited half of Hilda's estate. This is to be held in trust
for her until she reaches the age of 25. The trust is to be administered by Hilda's
godson, Guy Carstairs, only 7 years older than Angie.
Angie had majored in English and legal studies. She is a legal secretary, but has aspirations
to be a romance novelist. She wishes to move away from Maritzburg and devote her entire
time to writing. Guy agrees to give her an allowance and review the situation in 6 months.
She moves to Durban and rents rooms in a house with 4 others. There she develops various
relationships with the occupants. All is a new experience for her.
She sends an email to her favorite author, Victor Verities, disputing his theory about
romance heroes in women's novels. In the continuing exchange of emails between the two,
Angie believes she has fallen in love with him, but events prove otherwise. She finds
her feelings toward Carstairs have taken a more serious bent.
Baxter has previously written two Regency books (The Dashing Debutant 2002 and
Lord Fenmore's Wager 2003). Now she has given us a delightful modern miss with all
the problems and feelings of adjusting to her adult life. The plot is well constructed;
well written with a diverse likeable cast of characters. It is an enjoyable story with
the reader experiencing Angie's life with her.
