Summer in the City

By Robyn Sisman

Lloyd Rockwell works for an advertising agency in Manhattan. Suze Wilding works in their London office. The company is giving them the opportunity to switch lives for a month. They will trade everything from offices to apartments.

Lloyd brings his live-in girlfriend, Betsy, with him. She is hoping that the romance of being in another country will inspire him to propose.

Suze has trouble fitting in. She is a free spirit and everyone in the Manhattan office is much more formal than she is comfortable with. Then Sheri takes her under her wing. Suze is happy to have a friend. She doesn't know Sheri's reputation as the office backstabber.

Sheri claims that Lloyd is leaking privileged information to the competition. He is costing the company millions. Suze is eager to help Sheri hatch a plan to get rid of him.

Time passes. Suze begins to suspect that Sheri is not trying to help the company at all. She has her eye on Lloyd's job. Suze switches alliances and works together with Lloyd to bring about Sheri's downfall. In the process, Suze and Lloyd begin to fall in love.

I found the romance in this book to be very unbelievable. A couple of intercontinental phone calls and a business dinner don't seem like grounds to end one relationship and begin another. The story could have had more fun with a Yank in London and a Brit in Manhattan. It didn't. Although somewhat entertaining, overall this book is a disappointment.
