Hot Dish

by Connie Brockway

Ms. Brockway captured me with her wow sex scenes. I was fanning for control as I continued to read this entertaining book of contemporary romance. This book was a switch for me, but a friend recommended that I read one of Ms. Brockway’s books, and I wasn’t disappointed.

I don’t really like small towns, but Fawn Creek, Minnesota captured my interest This is a story about having to go back home with your injured pride a constant thorn in your side. This is what happens to Jenn Hallesby Lind when she loses everything.

It was easy to relate to the romance between Jenn and Steve Jaax, a man from her past. Can we ever forget about the love of our lives? I think the past comes back to haunt us in good and bad ways as a challenge we can’t conquer...or can we?

Having grown up in Chicago, I can imagine Jenn’s disappointment at being back in Fawn Creek, Minnesota. It can’t be easy, after having lived in a penthouse, to be back in a small town. Ms. Brockway gave me a chance to learn about other places. Her descriptive details left me feeling like I was actually there and experiencing Jenn’s plight at firsthand.

Tears and laugher were my tonic while I read this book, and it felt good to relate to the characters and Jen’s quest to get back what she lost, including a career in daytime TV. Will her new television show be the key to making all Jenn’s dreams come true?

Steve Jaax also has some baggage with his ex-wife and this inhibits his relationship with Jenn. All in all, this was an interesting read and I enjoyed this tale of losing everything, finding romance, and trying to get everything back. I also realized, after reading this book, that what you wish for might not be what you should have. Hot Dish is a hot read for longtime fans of Ms. Brockway, and new fans like myself. I am already checking out Ms. Brockway’s previous books. She has won me with her debut in contemporary fiction. I am hooked.
