The Perfect Stranger
Merridew Sisters series

by Anne Gracie

Nicholas Blacklock, a veteran of Waterloo, is on his way to Spain, accompanied by his faithful friends and fellow-veterans, Wilfred Stevens and Dougal McTavish. They are camped on a beach near Calais, France, when they hear noises from nearby - ones that make it clear a female is in dire straits.

Faith Merridew only wants to marry for love, but discovers the man with whom she has eloped to France has deceived her: he’s already married. Disillusioned, Faith leaves him, only to discover the town is filled with uncaring people who won’t help a penniless stranger. When three men pursue her, Faith rushes out of town toward the beach, followed by the men.

Fortunately, a handsome stranger saves Faith and, learning her circumstances, offers a proposition: As she needs protection and her reputation is in tatters, he offers her a marriage in name only. Additionally, since he is on a mission, when they reach the nearest port, Nicholas will ship her off to his mother in England. Faith agrees and accompanies the three men, but all too soon realizes that she is falling for the handsome stranger. Determined to stay true to her dream of sharing love, she sets out to win his love.

The Perfect Stranger is an excellent read, full of emotion, humor and characters that will tug at your heart. Anne Gracie writes scenes and passions so vivid that a reader is drawn immediately into rapport with the characters, their desires and fears, their joys and sorrows. From the first few pages, I couldn’t put this book down. The Perfect Stranger is absolutely wonderful, with a story that will capture your heart, bathe you with emotion and leave you longing for more.
