Plain Jane

by Laurien Gardner

Jane Seymour has known since the age of nine that she was plain and would never have any suitors.  After all, she heard her mother and father discussing it openly.   At the age of seventeen, she thought she had found the perfect boy to marry, however, his parents would not hear of it.  Therefore, with the help of a distant relative Jane became one of the ladies in waiting for Queen Catherine, never dreaming of the life that was to come.

Jane kept to herself mainly in the group of women around the queen. However, when Queen Catherine didn't produce a son for the King, he left and took a new woman as his wife, Anne Boleyn.  Jane was happy just staying where she was with Queen Catherine> However, on the day her brothers showed up, her happiness disappeared, as she was ordered to instead become a lady in waiting for Queen Anne.  No one is more surprised than Jane when after Anne does not deliver a son and he begins to tire of her, King Henry has begins showing Jane lots of attention.  However, Jane is not as easily drawn to the King as some women are; she wants to win his heart and the crown.

Can Jane do what no other queen has done and give King Henry the one thing he most desires?  Find out in this most incredible book.  This reviewer read this book in one setting; once I started, I was unable to put it down until the end.  If readers are looking for an interesting book that will keep you engrossed from the beginning, then Plain Jane is a book not to be missed.
