Queen of Babble
by Meg Cabot
The latest book to be released by Meg Cabot is not a pioneer in chick lit, but it’s a good summer read. The main
character, Lizzie Nichols, is just like every other American girl. She's excited about finally graduating from
college; the world is her oyster. Unfortunately for her, the oyster has an unbreakable clause: her senior thesis
that she must complete before she can accept her oh so holy diploma *cue dramatic music*. What's a girl to
do? Fly off to London, of course, to spend time with her long distance boyfriend who she has only known for the
past THREE months (and with whom she has only spent a total of 24 hours). Yea, good plan there.
Things, of course, take a dramatic turn for the worse. Surprise! The boyfriend isn't all that he is cracked up
to be (he is a compulsive liar and gambler) and all the graduation money that she blew on a non-refundable plane
ticket is long gone. Lizzie finally decides to contact a friend who just happens to be catering in the south of
France (does this seem as far fetched to you as it does to me?). Problem is, said friend doesn't realize Lizzie
is on the way. While traveling the Chunnel, Lizzie meets a dark and mysterious stranger AKA the hot guy we all
fantasize about.
The book continues on at a silly pace where Lizzie's mouth seems to be her constant partner in an effort to
bring her down. The hot guy she meets on the train is actually the son of the owner where Lizzie's friend is
catering. The scumbag boyfriend tries to make an appearance and life, as Lizzie knows it, is falling down all
around her. To add even more to her ordeals, hot guy has a girlfriend who definitely doesn't take to Lizzie's
bubbling personality (or mouth).
The book is cute and charming in places. If you want a guaranteed happy ending, Meg is the person to write it.
However, this book is not suitable for readers who usually follow her works (people under the age of eighteen).
Oral sex and other sexual innuendos are not just sprinkled throughout the book, but are written in blatant detail. |
