Rake's Ransom and A Loyal Companion
Two Regency Romances in One

by Barbara Metzger

      Rake's Ransom

Jacelyn Trevaine is happy living in the country with her father and her dog Pen. She doesn't care about going to London and even if she did her aunt didn't want her there, not after the last time. However, when it becomes apparent that the Squire will do whatever it takes to keep Jacelyn and Pen from causing havoc for his fox hunt, he arrests poor Pen, leaving Jacelyn with nothing to do but take the Squire's nephew hostage. Seems like a great idea too until she realizes she has the wrong man.

Leigh Merrill, Earl of Claibourne, is just riding along contemplating his luck and money troubles when he is taken hostage at gun point. Never one to miss what seems to be a little fun Leigh goes right along with the ruse. The real surprise comes when he discovers that it is not a boy taking him hostage over a dog but a girl and not just any girl. Jacelyn is the most fascinating girl he has ever seen. When the couple is caught together in an embrace there is nothing for them to do but marry.

For a hilariously funny, romantic book Rake's Ransom is one to read. The characters just seem to come alive with personalities that just complement each other.

A Loyal Companion

Sonia Randolph has always run free around her country home. So when she is suddenly uprooted from her home and sent to London Sonia knows life will never be the same again. If it wasn't for her dog Fitz, Sonia knows she just wouldn't have any close friends in London. When Fitz disappears Sonia is beside herself with worry but things change for the better when she meets the handsome Major Darius Conover when he returns Fitz. Although she is told repeatedly to stay away from the man Sonia does all she can to bring Darius back into society and let people learn he is not at all like they think he is.

Darius returned from the service to care for his brother's orphaned children, even knowing he would be blackballed by all of London. Meeting the beautiful Sonia nearly does Darius in as he realizes he could love this amazing woman. However, is there any way one can set things right after all of London blames him for something he didn't do?

A Loyal Companion is just a wonderfully entertaining book. You will just love reading about Sonia and Darius but what truly catches your attention is that this love story could not be told with out the wonderful narrator Fitz.

Ms. Metzger certainly knows how to give readers two stories that will keep them entertained.
