The Spirit of the Wolf

by Karen Kay

Many centuries ago, a village killed the children of the Thunder god. For their crime the Creator banished them to live a half existence in the land of shadows, neither dead nor alive. But once in a generation, a brave is given the opportunity to save his clan.

Grey Coyote is the chosen one. He alone can break the curse that has imprisoned his people for centuries. The curse revolves around the theory he must gain ownership of something that belongs to his enemy. Jacques LaCroix fits the perfect description of an enemy. The clues lead Grey Coyote to LaCroix and he challenges him to a game of chance. He easily defeats him and takes ownership of all his possession. There is one possession he now owns he never expected, Marietta Welsford.

Marietta hired Jacques LaCroix to serve as her guide to take her back to her family in England. As a child her evil Uncle banished her to the colonies upon the death of her parents. She has recently learned that she is the sole heir to her parents' estate. She has until her eighteenth birthday to stake her claim for what is rightly hers; if she doesn't the property will default to her uncle. LaCroix doesn't keep his word to help her find her way back to her homestead. Instead, he gambles her in a game of Cos-Soo. Now she finds herself "sold" to an Indian savage.

At the hands of Grey Coyote she is treated with dignity and respect. Each day they share together her resistance to him is quickly melting away. Time is a factor in both of their lives. With each day that passes each one of their dreams is left unfulfilled.

Few authors have the talent to write such an enriching tale. This story will take you on an unforgettable journey.
