Grounds for Love
By
Maureen Mackey
Jenny
Vaughn is a salmon, salad and herbal tea kind of girl.
Ty
Weston is steak, potatoes and coffee – definitely coffee.
In
fact, it's Ty's obsession with the perfect coffee – how to select
it and how to brew it – that leads him to meet Jenny and Baby, her
oversized watchdog, and the rest of her menagerie. After years of
serving coffee from a kiosk, Ty finally lands the funding he needs
to open his own coffee shop – with the caveat that he convince Jenny
that she doesn't want to continue her freelance career, but is eager
to sign on to be his new store publicist, full time. Ty and Jenny
are very business oriented. He's determined to expand his. She's
determined to hold on to her dream of a freelance career.
The
story is a delightful, fast-paced romp, with an equally fun cast
of characters. The classic ‘oh, no, we're stuck in the same room'
scene is different and fun. The fact that Jenny relies heavily on
Baby's opinion and judgment of men leads to some amusing scenes,
too. Unfortunately, Grounds for Love relies too heavily on misunderstandings
that could be cleared up in a line or two. In spite of that, Ms.
Mackey writes an absolutely delightful romance I would recommend
to anyone.
