Lady Sara’s Scheme
by Emily Hendrickson
Lady Sara Harland is a beautiful heiress, and one might think one of the first to be snapped up during the Season.
But that does not mean that she would not prefer some choice in the matter, so the three delightfully eccentric aunts
she lives with have come up with a scheme. They have drawn up lists of the most suitable men for both Sara and her
three best friends. Trouble is, the first name on Sara’s list is that of Myles Fenwick, the Earl of St. Quinton,
and after the fiasco at the Christmas party she wants no more to do with him. But suppose he wants more to do with
her, and has his own scheme so he can get his way?
Ms. Hendrickson’s novels are probably the closest you can get to Georgette Heyer, and thus I had a ball reading
what I think of as a real Regency. The story is as delightfully sparkling as a glass of good champagne, and I find
myself actually liking the people in it I was supposed to like. None of the characters was just a caricature, and
my belief wasn’t stretched to snapping point at any moment. There is plenty of good-humored story in here, and
behind it all an underpinning of real history which made it the nearest I can get to actually being there, short
of a time machine. If you have read all of Ms Heyer’s romances and are wondering what to do next, you can get hold
of this - the sort of book that gives romances a good name. |
