Lover Revealed
Black Dagger Brotherhood, No. 4

by J.R. Ward

The Black Dagger Brotherhood is an elite group of vampire warriors. Ex-homicide detective, Butch O’Neal, is the only human who has ever been allowed to live within their compound. Although he was not of their blood, the brotherhood accepted him as an equal.

One night Butch encounters a Lessor chasing a civilian. His cop instincts immediately go into overdrive as he is determined to stop the Lesser from succeeding at his kill. He calls one of the Brotherhood members for backup, but his call goes unanswered. He knows that it will be up to him to save the civilian. What he doesn’t anticipate is that he is walking into a trap. Before he knows it, he is surrounded by six of the undead fiends. Butch remains loyal to the Brotherhood. No means of torture that his captors inflict is enough to have his lips utter one word of their secret world. Left to die with his body broken, he takes comfort in knowing that he has not betrayed his friends.

Vishous is the one who finds Butch more dead than alive. But beneath the many wounds he has suffered, there is a distinct scent of evil that penetrates out of every pore of his body. Just being around him sets Vishous’s skin on edge. It is as though Butch’s body has been filled with the worst kind of evil. He knows he has to get his friend back to the compound. Whatever had been done to him put both of their lives in grave danger.

When Butch is examined, Hade delivers the grim news that he can’t pinpoint what had been done to Butch. He fears the human would be too weak to overcome all that has been inflicted to his being. The best Hade can do for him is to quarantine him and hope for the best.

When news reaches Marissa of Butch’s condition, she immediately flies to his side. Without a care for her own safety, she rushes to his bedside to will him to live. Although he is trapped in an unconscious state, she feels her words are having the life saving impact that she intended. With each one of his breaths, she takes comfort in knowing that he is still alive.

Marissa is just the right medicine to enable Butch to break free of the gray mist that held him prisoner. But an evil force had been placed inside of him. Just being by those he loves puts their lives in danger. Can he rid himself of that which flows within his veins or will he be doomed to live out his life alone?

No paranormal fan should miss reading all the books that make up the The Black Dagger Brotherhood. This is by far the best paranormal series I have ever experienced. With each story you grow much closer to the characters. Each one offers its own special blend of sexual radiance that overtakes your heart and soul. Lover Revealed is yet another winning offering. Butch is a character who, at one time, I had a hard time accepting, but this book reveals that he is a man of much substance. Very highly recommended.
