Passions of the Ghost
Third in the Immortal Warriors trilogy

by Sara Mackenzie

Magic. Romance. A 13th century warrior. Dragons. All can be found in Sara Mackenzie’s Passions of the Ghost. Reynald de Mortimer is a powerful March lord who died in the year 1299. Amy Fairweather is a former con artist working with her brother on one last scam before turning her life around. Their paths cross when a Sorceress gives Reynald a second chance to right a wrong and ultimately protect his people by sending him from the "between world" to present day. Reynald is back in his castle, which is now a first class hotel hosting a medieval revival weekend.

Amy is there to do a job, albeit reluctantly. Her heart is no longer in the steal-from-the-rich high stakes game played by her brother Jez. She has agreed to one final scam out of loyalty to Jez. Her mission: insinuate herself into the good graces of Prince Nicco (by whatever means necessary) and learn the location of the Star of Russia, a priceless gem owned by the prince. It is during one such rooftop interlude with the odious prince that Amy first encounters Reynald when he comes to her aid. Later, Amy steps in and rescues Reynald from a run-in with the hotel manager. Amy quickly becomes drawn into Reynald’s quest and as her feelings for Reynald grow, so does her distaste for her real reason for being there.

Amy and Reynald are both likable characters, although Amy’s seemingly easy acceptance of Rey’s true identity, and the presence of a dragon, defies belief at times. Reynald’s struggle to understand the modern world in which he finds himself while holding true to the honor he was known for is especially touching, while a pleasing conclusion will satisfy those readers who enjoy a happy ending.
