Reluctant Burglar
Book One in the To Catch a Thief series
by Jill Elizabeth Nelson
Desiree Jacobs steals priceless paintings for a living, and then returns them. After all, her father, Hiram
Jacobs, is an internationally renowned security expert, the best in the world, and she is following in his
footsteps. Her father is murdered while in Rome and Tony Lucano, a Special Agent with the FBI, breaks the
devastating news to Desi.
The FBI suspects that Hiram was an art thief with ties to an international theft ring, the profits of which
fund international terrorism. Tony, believing Desi might be an accomplice, has her watched. When the home she
shared with her father is broken into and ransacked, the FBI arrives before she is hurt, but the break-in has
provided her with a secret code that leads her to a warehouse - and the missing paintings. Although her father
was involved in the theft, he left a message stating that he intended to return the priceless artwork to the
rightful owners. He also added that she should trust Tony Lucano.
Desi has her doubts about trusting the FBI agent who is so determined to destroy the business her father
started - and she now owns. Using her skills, Desi manages to return one painting before the thieves realize she
now possesses the artwork. They want the paintings back, even if it means kidnapping and murder.
The danger and suspense thickens as Tony discovers the identity of her father’s killer. Desi soon begins to
suspect her assistant and friend, Max, of providing inside information to the thieves. As leads to the terrorist
organization are discovered, the danger constantly increases. Tony and Desi have placed their faith in their
abilities - and God. But can they set aside their mutual distrust to work together to foil the ruthless art
thieves’ plans?
Jill Elizabeth Nelson's Reluctant Burglar is an excellent romantic suspense, loaded with
multi-dimensional characters, a thrilling plot, and surprising twists and turns that kept me reading until the
satisfying last page. Desiree is an admirable heroine, independent and spunky, yet she has her vulnerable moments.
Tony’s actions as an FBI agent are tempered against his growing attraction toward Desi, making the romance
believable and thoroughly enjoyable. The first in Nelson’s "To Catch a Thief" series, Reluctant Burglar
packs a wallop of mystery, action, thrills, intrigue and a touch of romance into an outstanding debut novel. |
