The Scottish Companion

by Karen Ranney

The 10th Earl of Straithern, Grant Robertson, is haunted by the untimely death of his two brothers and fears he may also have inherited the same blood disease which claimed their lives. He knows it is up to him to ensure the family name is carried on for future generations. In order to ensure he produces an heir he must find a wife. Knowing that time is not on his side, he agrees to a suggestion from the family doctor to wed his daughter.

Gillian Cameron is the paid companion to Arabella, the Earl of Straithern’s intended. Arbella is more interested in learning to be a physician then the prospect of becoming an earl’s wife. Arbella’s father requests that Gillian school her on how to become a proper bride. Gillian’s job is no easy task for Arbella shows no interest in learning what it takes to be a blushing bride. Gillian has only one month in which to transform Arbella into a proper lady worthy of the Earl’s hand in marriage.

Upon meeting the Earl, Gillian is bewitched by the magnificent sex appeal the man radiates. She questions how anyone could not be excited to be betrothed to someone as handsome as the Earl. Gillian’s interest turns to instant attraction, but she hides her feelings, knowing he would never accept a commoner such as herself.

Gillian is wrong when she thinks Grant could never return her feelings. The spark of interest in his eyes shows he appreciates her as a woman. Their growing attraction spins out of control overnight but there are evil forces that are intent on destroying any chance Grant has of conceiving an heir.

Karen Ranney is one of my all time favorite authors. For years I have been in love with every book she has written. The Scottish Companion is rich in historic details, overflowing with fast paced dialogue and an award winning storyline. Very highly recommended.
