Sleeping With the Fishes

by Mary Janice Davidson

Fred Bimm is half-human, half-mermaid. Her hair is the color of the ocean. She is employed as a marine biologist at the New England Aquarium. She can't swim (without her tail), and is allergic to seafood. She is edgy, irritable and lonely.

Thomas Pearson, also a marine biologist, is assigned to the New England Aquarium to investigate unknown toxins that have been found in the water. He recruits Fred to help him investigate the cause of these toxic levels and find out where they are coming from. High Prince Artur, High Prince of the Black Sea, also shows up, insisting Fred is one of his "subjects." He is a mer-dude and is seeking Fred's help investigating the same problem that Thomas is.

As the three of them investigate the toxins in the water, Fred's best friend Jonas begins dating Dr. Barb, Fred's boss, further complicating Fred's life. Artur and Thomas are at odds with each other and both competing for Fred. Fred discovers her parents are in the process of adopting a child. How much more complicated can a mermaid's life get?

Sleeping With the Fishes is an entertaining, fast-paced, enjoyable paranormal romance. I loved Fred's quirky and cantankerous personality and sense of humor. An uplifting, fun book to read.
