The Taste of Innocence
A Cynster novel #14
by Stephanie Laurens
This story brings Lord Charles Morwellan and his neighbor, Sarah Conningham, together. Lord Morwellan has decided
that he must marry and fulfill his family duty to produce an heir. Sarah is headstrong, her own mistress, and is
in charge of a local orphanage. When Lord Morwellan proposes, Sarah imposes some conditions that he must follow
before she gives him an answer. She wants her marriage to be one of true love. Charles falls for her and they
marry. However, their marriage changes due to Charles’ feelings about marrying for love.
Trouble occurs when Sarah doesn’t understand Charles’ mixed signals; during the day - cool and distant - and at
night - passionate and loving. Also, there is trouble at the orphanage as a series of accidents happen, but Sarah
is confused and doesn’t know what to do or who to trust.
This book is the fourteenth book in the Cynster series. According to the book jacket Laurens is linking her
Cynster series with her Bastion series (five novels) via To Distraction, this novel and the next book in
the Bastion series.
This book is full of passion between Charles and Sarah, both premarital and after marriage. The intrigue and
mystery is largely due to finding out who is causing trouble in the neighborhood. I would recommend this book as
it is an entertaining book with plenty of intrigue and a twist in the ending. Although this is a romantic
historical novel, this book could use a little more historical context and a little less sizzle. This is a good
book for an escape from reality and to enjoy some romance and mystery. It would be interesting to read her other
novels to see how she links them together and how her characters and writing style have developed over time along
with her research on background information for this time period. |
