A Week From Sunday

by Dorothy Garlock

Dorothy Garlock is an exceptional writer and A Week From Sunday is an enjoyable book. Some of the characters I loved, some I hated, but I enjoyed spending time with all of them. Suspenseful enough to keep one turning the pages, A Week From Sunday is a book worth reading. I truly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of Dorothy Garlock's books.

A Week From Sunday begins in Shreveport, Louisiana in the year of 1935. Adrianna's father, Charles Moore, owned Moore Bank & Trust. On the day of his funeral Adrianna discovers he left everything to his lawyer, Richard Pope. Richard informs her that she is to marry him a week from Sunday. She is twenty-five and he is in his late fourties. Richard's very presence makes Adrianna's stomach churn. She is repulsed by the very sight of him and there is no way she will marry him as he has ordered her to do.

Adrianna's father made Richard executor of his estate. Richard is completely in charge of her, of her money, the bank, the house and everything in it. It's all under his supervision. Adrianna will only get everything her father left behind if she agrees to marry Richard.

Adrianna flees town on the Sunday she is to marry Richard. Because of the stormy weather and the heavy rain she gets into an accident outside of Lee's Point.

Quinn Baxter, the driver of the truck her car collided with, isn't happy with the dimwitted lady who plowed into his truck. Now he needs a piano player in a big hurry because Gabe's hand is injured as a result of the accident. It just so happens that Adrianna plays the piano so Quinn agrees to overlook the damages to his truck and its contents if Adrianna will play the piano at the tavern, Whipsaw, where they have sing alongs two nights a week.

Since there really isn't anywhere for Adrianna to stay in this small town she stays at Quinn's. This way she can also help care for Quinn's sixteen year old brother, still recovering from an accident himself, who has yet to recover the use of his legs, to help pay off her debt to Quinn.

Lola, Quinn's housekeeper, has been trying to get her claws into Quinn for quite some time and is not at all happy at Adrianna's appearance there. In fact she makes life very unpleasant for Adrianna. Meanwhile Richard is still searching for her determined to make her his wife.

Will Quinn be her knight in shining armor who gives her a whole new life?
