What a Lady Wants
by Victoria Alexander
In 1854 London, oh so proper Lady Felicity Melville yearns for excitement and adventure. And despite her sensible
nature, even finds herself standing on her balcony wishing on a star for a husband who is not boring and ordinary.
It is there that she sees notorious rogue, the Honorable Nigel Cavendish, climbing out of the window of the woman
next door's house. Intrigued and excited, rather than scandalized, Lady Felicity is further enthralled when Nigel
climbs onto her own balcony. After a brief, yet feisty exchange, Felicity is convinced of one thing: Nigel is the
man she is meant to marry.
Confirmed bachelor Nigel Cavendish is living life on his own terms and following the pursuits that make him
happy: womanizing, gambling, and generally avoiding any real responsibility. He is intrigued by his encounter with
Felicity but when he learns of her identity - a young woman in good standing who is seeking marriage - he knows
any entanglement can only lead to trouble. Felicity, meanwhile, has enlisted the aid of Nigel’s sister to help her
attain her goal: to make Nigel want to marry her. Circumstances conspire to give Felicity what she thought she
wanted, forcing her to decide if she is willing to settle for less than she wished for.
What a Lady Wants is a thoroughly enjoyable read with likable characters. Felicity is bold and
forward-thinking while Nigel is stubborn and slow to come into his own. It is a pleasure to see Nigel transform
into the man Felicity is sure he can be. Fans of historical romance will not want to miss this one. |
