Amanda Sheffield meets the handsome Lord Braden Hamilton when, at age 11, her parents are slain by a renegade band
of Indians. Though too late to save her parents, Braden’s heroism in fighting the Indians remains in Amanda’s heart
long after Lord Hamilton departs.
Seven years later, when Amanda returns home from England, Philip informs her that Briarfield Plantation is in
financial straits. He has contacted Lord Braden Hamilton regarding marriage. Amanda’s joy turns to fury when she
learns Braden refused her hand and, worse, arranged for her to marriage to a rich, older Marquess. Yet, Amanda
realizes she has no choice if she is to save her family home. She departs for Boston, accompanied by her maid,
Coco, to her Uncle Hugh’s home, where they will await Braden’s arrival. Braden will collect the new ship built by
her uncle, then sail them to Bermuda, where her uncle will give her away when she marries the Marquess.
Though Braden Hamilton has no desire to marry, he soon falls for the beautiful, alluring Amanda. When Braden
realizes Amanda loves him, he becomes determined to wed her. Then Amanda learns that Braden cares for a young
female who lives on his plantation. Heart broken, she marries the Marquess, who dies shortly after their unconsummated
wedding.
What follows is an exciting series of events that bring the two lovers back to Boston, with accusations of
witchcraft, and to the brink of death at the Salem Witch trials.
Wind Rose by Krista Janssen is a thrilling historical romance, one that swept me across an ocean of
excitement, deception, jealousy and love. Ms. Janssen does an outstanding job of portraying the horrors of the
Salem Witch Trials, but her skill resides in creating believable characters that linger in one’s heart long after
the last page.
Definitely one of the best books I have read in the past year, Wind Rose kept me turning the pages long
into the wee hours of the morning. I look forward to reading more from this exciting, award-winning author.
