Witch in the House

by Jenna McKnight

Jade Delarue casts a spell for her friend, Lyle. Brenda, the woman he loves, the mother of his unborn child, is about to marry another man. He asks Jade’s help in stopping the wedding.

After Lyle leaves, Jade casts two more spells, one after another. One for Brenda’s soon-to-be-former fiancé to find happiness and another for herself to find true love. After Jade walks away, the candles used in the casting, melt and run together.

Mason Kincaid is standing at the altar when word comes from his bride, Brenda. She’s pregnant and has run off with the baby’s father.

Instead of going on a honeymoon to Aruba, Mason finds himself investigating a missing man in snow covered Missouri. And where are he and his partner staying? At Jade’s B&B, of course!

Jade’s husband is the missing man. He and two buddies left six years ago to see if their boat had made it through an ice storm. They never came home. The men are about to be officially declared dead. Jade and her two best friends are going to come into substantial amounts of money. Unless the dead husbands aren’t really dead.

That’s where Mason comes in. His job is to go undercover and snoop around. He needs to find out if the women killed the men or if the men are hiding, waiting to come out when the money is available.

As Jade and Mason spend time together, they fall in love. Jade feels guilty because her spell brought Mason to her without his knowledge. Mason is worried about what will happen when Jade finds out the he has been spying on her.

Although this story doesn’t have much of a plot, it is well written. Well enough that I plan to read the other two books in this series just to find out what happened to the missing men.
