Serena Carlyle has dreams of a happy ever after. But, at the age
of twenty five, all she looks forward to is marrying off her sister
to the neighbor, moving into her own little cottage and living out
her life as an old spinster. That night at the ball she goes into
a room thinking she is alone in the dark. Suddenly she hears a man’s
voice. She hears his movement, feels him move close to her. He kisses
her and lights a fire within her like she’s never felt before.
When she finally breaks free of him, she leaves the room and goes
back among the ton to meet her sister’s intended. He should
arrive at any moment.
Alex, the Earl of Savege, is sitting quietly in a dark room waiting
to make his entrance and meet his supposed betrothed. A woman quietly
opens the door. He sees a brief glimpse of her face and becomes
intrigued. He quickly makes his way across the room. He kisses her,
holding her close in his embrace. He doesn’t know who she
is, but he wants more of her. When she leaves the room, he is determined
to find her later and do more than just kiss her.
Later, they do find each other only to discover that Alex is the
intended betrothed of Serena’s sister. What follows is a passion
that will not be denied, secrets to be revealed, and treason to
be uncovered.
Katharine Ashe has a winner. This book kept me glued to it from
beginning to end. With Alex’s double life as the Earl and
also as the Robin Hood style pirate, he is in constant danger of
being found out. Serena is trying to get Alex to call off the betrothal
because her sister is scared of him, while at the same time trying
to convince Alex to help her track down pirates that are harming
people on her father’s lands. There is plenty to keep your
attention. The characters work well together and the story is great.
I strongly recommend this book for any who love a good historical
romance.
