Perry Berg, president
of Benthic Marine, finds himself aboard The Benthic Explorer, a research
ship that is supposed to be drilling into the earth's magma core. But
something is wrong and Berg, Dr. Suzanne Newell, skipper Donald Fuller,
and two Navy divers launch a submersible vehicle to find out why their
drilling bits keep breaking.
They find an underwater volcano that sucks them down farther than their
craft is designed to go. What they find in the depths of the sea makes
up the wild and unbelievable plot of ABDUCTION.
A world exists under the ocean - a world with inhabitants that predate
humankind. Berg and the others find that the tales of Atlantis are true
- and that it is nestled at the bottom of the ocean. The creatures that
live in Interterra are resolved to protect their world at all costs. Humans
who venture into Interterra are never allowed to leave. Berg and the crew
set about to find a way back to their own lives, and the peaceful inhabitants
of the underwater world must fight back to save their civilization.
ABDUCTION pushes the
realm of possibility past the breaking point. The plot becomes silly and
contrived. Cook, a masterful medical mystery writer, should stick to his
specialty and leave science fiction to writers who can present a plot
that is more palpable.
