Last summer saw the publication of the second volume of this thrilling trilogy and if, like me, you have been keen to find out how it all ends, the wait is over. It seemed as though the Genesis Wave and the threat it posed to inhabited planets had been nullified and all there was left to do was clean up - but this is not so. A remaining moss creature has the technology that produces this effect in a box, and the box had just fallen into the wrong hands, hands such as a demoted Bajoran vedek and a desperate Ferengi businessman. But as if that is not enough the Romulans want the Brahms suits back and have sent a sexy commander to seduce Picard (not difficult) and previous use of the Wave has thinned the veil separating this dimension from a neighboring one that seems to be full of scary (and angry) monsters…is there ever a quiet day in the Star Trek universe?

Fortunately for the series' devoted fans, it doesn't appear so, and this is certainly one of the best sets of books to appear for some time, replete with danger, humor and lots of interesting characters. As in all the best TV tie-in books, you can read about the sort of large-scale action that would not be possible on the small screen and like its two predecessors, this is an exciting and taut tale, although the ending is perhaps a little ordinary. As I said with the other two books I've read Star Trek stories with more plot strands and complex character relationships, but if you want a straightforward and stirring adventure story then this certainly fits the bill.
