Whenever I'm asked what kind of books that Lois McMaster Bujold writes, I'm never sure just what the correct answer is. Fantasy? Fiction? Science Fiction? They all seem so limiting! Her stories and characters transcend any labels I can think of. But I think I can finally describe her books. She writes fantastic books filled with stories of beauty and darkness, and magical characters who become unbelievably real. THE CURSE OF CHALION is no exception!

When we meet him, Cazaril is a man broken in spirit and worn down by war and treachery. He wants little and expects even less of life, desiring only to return to the safety and warmth of his home. But the gods have far more in mind for Caz! When the Dowager Provincara of Valenda realizes who he is, she not only takes him in; she requests that he serve as her granddaughter, the Royesse Iselle's, tutor. And when Caz swears his loyalty to Iselle and vows to protect her at all costs, he cannot even dream what those costs will be. Their story takes them from the safety of Valenda, to the dangerous court of Cardegoss, filled with politics, intrigue and a constant sense of menace. Caz, Iselle, and the members of their party soon realize that there are unseen dangers around every dark corner and that any false step could be their last!
Lois McMaster Bujold has written a fabulous book, full of action, adventure, faith and romance. I know it sounds like a cliche to say, "You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll stand and cheer!" but you will. THE CURSE OF CHALION grabs hold of you on the first page and just won't let go. This is a truly unforgettable book that will stay with you for a long, long time.
