Robert Jordan has perhaps created the best-loved fantasy saga since Lord of the Rings with his Wheel of Time series. I always think of it as being the closest yet to a fantasy soap opera and find that Jordan has the rare gift of filling his big books with a big story and big characters. With anything on this scale, however, it can help to have a book like this on the shelf to consult when you aren't sure what happened to some minor character in the early volumes or get mixed up with some of the names. Now for the first time you can find out more about the Age of Legends, examine the differences between the various nations including the Dune-like Aiel, read about the magic, animals, calendars and pore over some useful maps. The only thing missing is a few pictures - but then they say that the best ones are always in the imagination! The sort of useful little book that makes a great gift for any fan of the books and sat on a coffee table will entertain in odd moments.
