Captain’s
Blood
Star Trek
Series
By William Shatner
Following
the tumultuous events described in the film Nemesis, Ambassador
Spock is trying to bring some order to the now disparate Romulans
when he is assassinated. Captain Kirk is brought out of retirement,
along with McCoy and Scotty, to find out whodunit, but bringing
his young child Joseph proves to be the turning point of the whole
affair. During this adventure Kirk will be reunited with not only
his old friends and some of Picard’s crew, but with an adversary
from his early days aboard the Enterprise who may want peace—or
the end of the whole universe.
Perhaps it is inevitable that
an adventure written by William Shatner (but aided and abetted by
Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens) will feature Kirk as the hero
at every turn, and this is certainly true in this book. It is definitely
a lively page-turner with plenty of action and some surprises, and
it is good to find out what happened after the last film as well
as the next installment of Kirk’s written adventures. This
is not a long novel and it is nicely paced, not introducing us to
many new characters but giving some imaginatively in-character depictions
of old friends and a teasing plot. Fans are sure to enjoy it, and
the epilogue gives a good cliffhanger ending that will be picked
up on in Captain’s Glory. |
