Children of Magic
Edited by: Martin H. Greenberg and Kerrie Hughes
The premise of the anthology Children of Magic is simple - children born with extraordinary gifts - how do they
cope? How do they learn to use their gifts wisely? How do their parents deal with it? The result of this premise was
truly wonderful. I love short stories and fantasy so I must admit to being predisposed to love this book, but these stories
really have something for everyone. Both "After School Specials" (take two spoiled rich kids, add magic, and feel very,
very sorry for the adults around them) and "Touching Faith" (if you learned how to handle a real healing gift from
television - exactly what would you assume?) made me laugh. "The Trade" (Making magic from the dead) and Titan (What
if Da Vinci was more than we thought?) made me shiver. And "Shahira" (the novella) and "The Horses of the High Hills"
made me cry. I found something to love in every one of the seventeen stories. |
