The Cracked Throne
Sequel to The Skewed Throne
by Joshua Palmatier
The Cracked Throne is Palmatier’s sequel to his debut novel, The Skewed Throne. In this time, the city
of Amenkor is in danger. The Mistress of the Skewed Throne, Eryn, is dangerously close to becoming insane. It is the
throne itself that is driving her mad. Therefore, a Seeker, named Varis, has been convinced that she must kill Eryn,
to save Amenkor. Seekers are assassins and bodyguards for the Mistress. Little does she know, Eryn is behind the
attempt on her own life. She wants Varis to replace her as Mistress. Amenkor has been sliding in a downward spiral,
since the White Fire had swept through six years before. Things got worse when a merchant named Alendor schemed to
take control of the food supplies. Varis was supposed to kill him, but she missed. Alendor burned the warehouse
district and disappeared.
Now, Amenkor has very little food to get the city through the winter. And Eryn has blockaded the harbor, leaving
Amenkor with no way to import more supplies. She must be removed from the Skewed Throne, if Amenkor is to survive.
But Eryn’s plan did not include her death. Instead, she forced Varis to take the throne, to become Mistress of
Amenkor. Now, with her sanity restored, she and Varis must work together to save the city from starvation.
The Cracked Throne is a well-written fantasy of sorcery gone wrong, mistakes made that proved fatal to
some, but not those who made the errors in judgement. Varis needs more than just the magic that Eryn calls the Sight
to unravel the mystery of the vision she had of the city being attacked from the sea. Can the seventeen-year-old
Mistress learn to use her gift in time to save Amenkor? Read The Cracked Throne, and enjoy a sequel that
can also stand alone. |
