A Dirty Job : A Novel

by Christopher Moore
Read by Fisher Stevens

Charlie Asher goes from widower and new dad to Death Merchant. It takes a tall black man by the name of Minty Fresh and the Great Book of Death to help him fulfill his duties, but that's only after Charlie loses a couple of soul vessels, causes chaos in the sewers and danger in his own apartment. Since Charlie seems to be where the bodies fall and reaps the benefits - in a way - the police get involved, as well as the Forces of Death, a pair of Hell Hounds, and some strange little... things?

In A Dirty Job, Christopher Moore turns death into a laughing matter - for the listener, anyway. Excessive use of the F word is over the top at most points, but his gift of humor and quirky characters excels. It's slapstick entertainment throughout. After meeting Charlie Asher, beta male, and his group of cohorts, I can't wait to find Moore's previous work so I can experience even more of his weird and wonderful humor.

Narrator of the audio version is Fisher Stevens. His reading successfully brings these odd little personalities to life, which doubles the humor of the storyline. It's laugh-out-loud funny. I hope he wins an Audie for this one. Remember: this audio book is mature in theme, so remember those headphones.
