Doppelganger

by Marie Brennan

Legend has it when a witch is born, a doppelganger is created.

This inner being is an identical twin. In order for the witch to obtain her full powers the twin must be killed.

Miryo and Mirage were born together but separated at birth. To reunite the two would result in one of them ending the life of the other . . .

Miryo is a witch who is seeking to come into her full powers. What is preventing her from living out her true calling is the existence of a doppelganger. Normally, the mother is responsible for ridding the world of the doppelganger on the fifth night from its birth. Since this did not occur, the fate of her witchhood resides in her hands. She knows that she will have to seek out her nemesis and fulfill the death prophesy

Mirage is the doppelganger; she is an exact replica of Miryo. She has been trained by the best at the Silverfire School to serve as a bounty hunter. She has learned her lessons well, and for the last year has been constantly placing her life on the line. Due for a long needed rest, she decides to go on vacation. Unfortunately, her much needed rest is disrupted when she meets her year-mate Eclipse. He commissions her to work with him to locate a witch killer. The job is one that will have her coming face to face with her past.

As the two meet and the past is brought to light, will the future be filled with death and destruction . . .?

Marie Brennan has made one impressive debut. Her first book overflows with a generous portion of high flying action and nail biting suspense. Through her words, this talented author can quickly convert anyone to a Fantasy fan. Each one of her characters is richly developed and fully supports this wonderful tale. I look forward to what the future holds for this author. I'm convinced her future offerings will be just as addictive. Very highly recommended.
