Mystic Empire
Book Three of "The Bronze Canticles"

by Tracy & Laura Hickman

Mystic Empire is the last book in Tracy and Laura Hickman's trilogy, "The Bronze Canticles." Eighty years have passed since Galen Arvad led the mystic clans into the ancient ruins of Calsandria. The mystics are rebuilding Calsandria and moving into the suburbs. Among them is Rylmar Conlan, a powerful businessman and mystic. He has two daughters and a son. One of his daughters shows no mystic gifts at all, thus Theona Conlan is in charge of the smooth operation of the Conlan household. No marriage has been arranged for her. However, her father has arranged for her sister, Valana, to marry Crown Prince Treijan Rennes-Arvad.

Treijan has too many problems of his own to be saddled with a wife. On the night his engagement is announced, Treijan is apparently kidnapped by Gaius Petros, his cousin and constant companion.

As did the previous two volumes, Mystic Empire switches points of view between the goings on of the faeries, the hobgoblins and the mystics. We see Dwynwyn, Queen of the Dead, prepare for war against the Kyree, a war begun by accident when hobgoblin Deep Tinker, Lunid, falls in love with Arryk, a faery of Dwynwyn's court. She builds a machine that lets her kidnap Arryk. Unfortunately for the Fae, Lunid's timing is askew. She picks the time when Arryk is returning a runaway slave centaur to the Kyree. She kills the Kyree commander in the process. Things go from bad to worse as Valana and Theona hunt for Treijan, not knowing that all three worlds -hobgoblin, Fae and mystic- will be plunged into a war only one man wants.

Mystic Empire is loaded with action and intrigue as three worlds are driven toward mutual destruction. Will any of them be able to pull back from the brink in time? Pick up a copy of Mystic Empire and prepare for a wild finish to an already wild fantasy.
