The Time Traveler's Wife
by Audrey Niffenegger
Read by William Hope and Laurel Lefkow
Highbridge chose wisely in producing this as an unabridged audio. I can't imagine any part
of Henry's and Clare's lives being left out. It all begins when Henry meets Claire in
a field. She's six and he's in his thirties. He's time traveling and she's the one he
continues to run into during these travels. He also runs into others who become a part
of both their later lives. He even lets someone else, other than Clare, in on his secret.
Clare is a kind person who falls for Henry early in her life. He falls for her, but refuses
to push their relationship until fate places them together in their natural time. As
Henry's genetic clock resets time and time again, he literally watches himself grow up
and returns for brief glimpses of his parents, especially his mother. Henry gets to know
Clare and her family as she ages, too. As he witnesses her life, things begin to click.
Things she's said or done during their marriage - in the future. Despite Henry's flaws
one can't help but feel for him. Listening to his emotions as he's thrown back and forth
through time is fascinating. Catching on to how Clare's life is connected to Henry makes
her life intriguing. The concept of time travel may sound unbelievable and a character
talking to his doppelganger even sillier, but it works. The author presents this science
fiction tale in a literary style. It's well written and truly absorbing. By the time
you get to the last CD, it'll seem as if you were literally a part of their lives, just
as their close friends were. |
