Working for the Devil

by Lilith Saintcrow

What happens when you work for the Devil? Dante "Danny" Valentine, free-lance mercenary and Necromance, was about to find out. Danny had bills to pay. She'd bought a house, complete with a mortgage, and she worked hard to pay it off. She had a reputation as the best Necromace around, even able to raise a spirit from ashes. In many court cases, testimony from the deceased was required to settle estate claims, especially when a will was contested. It worked very well in murder cases as well.

Then, one rainy Monday morning, her tarot reading was interrupted by a pounding at her front door. She answered it, only to find a demon, pointing a gun at her head. He demanded to see Danny Valentine. When Danny introduced herself, the demon informed her that the Devil wanted to see her immediately because he had a job for her.

As if the trip to Hell wasn't bad enough, the job Lucifer offered her was worse. He wanted her, a mere Necromance, to hunt down and kill a demon, one Lucifer had given the immunity that the demon could not be killed by man nor demon. If she succeeded, she would be wealthy beyond her wildest dreams. If she failed or refused to do the job, she would die.

Working for the Devil is filled with action and intrigue as Danny hunts down the demon that had killed her best friend. She doesn't like the terms of the contract, but she finds, as all who deal with the Devil do, that she has no choice. Will Lucifer keep his promise, or will Danny find out that working for the Devil has its price? Find out for yourself when you read Working for the Devil.
