Changeling
Part 2 of The Otherworld Series (Sisters of the Moon)
by Yasmine Galenorn
Those three half-human, half-faerie sisters are back and ready for action. As in her best-selling fantasy novel,
Witchling (also reviewed on Myshelf.com),
Galenorn chronicles the demon-fighting antics of the D’Artigo sisters: Delilah, a werecat; Camille, a good witch;
and Menolly, a new vampire. Told from Delilah’s point of view this time, Changeling ventures back and forth
between her life as a beautiful six-foot-one-inch operative for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency and prowling
around nights as a frisky tabby cat.
What sets the plot in motion is a visit to Delilah’s office by the handsome leader of the Weres of the Rainier
Puma Pride, Zachary Lyonnesse. While the sisters help solve the mystery of who’s been murdering the Pumas, Delilah
struggles between her feelings of attraction for Zachary and her established relationship with Chase, a FBH
(full-blooded human). Although Changeling contains romance and explicit sexuality, the emphasis lies in the
realm of fantasy. The sisters also struggle with the knowledge of eminent war in their homeland and their father’s
precarious situation there.
There’s a lot of plot to follow, character names to remember, and abbreviations to learn, but the delightfully
fun writing will guide you through without too much trouble. One minute the book describes poor Menolly’s
newly-acquired blood lust and subsequent feeding frenzy, and the next minute the text joyfully depicts Delilah in
her transformed state frolicking with a mouse or pouncing on the holiday tree. Galenorn includes plenty of
surprises and interesting twists in this Seattle-based urban fantasy. The dialogue between the characters sounds
coarse sometimes, but these sisters tell it like it is...at least in the Otherworld. |
