Hell To Pay
A Novel of The Nightside #7

by Simon R. Green

Hell To Pay is an entertaining and enjoyable book. A fantasy-mystery that will have you laughing out loud, it is well written and, in places, very funny.

Within Nightside (contained within the city of London) are many different kingdoms and domains, and even more private heavens and hells. One such kingdom is Griffin Hall where the immortal Jeremiah Griffin and his immortal family reside. However, within Nightside even immorality doesn't last forever; perhaps thousands of years, but not forever.

John Taylor is a private eye who specializes in cases of the weird and uncanny. John has a special gift for finding things and people. This gift is an inner eye, a third eye, a private eye, and with it John is able to see things hidden to others.

Jeremiah hires John to find his missing grand-daughter, Melissa. In just under twenty four hours Melissa will turn eighteen. Important legal documents must be signed by her before she turns eighteen in order for her to inherit her grand-father's fortune and business.

When John attempts to use his inner eye to find Melissa he finds a powerful being is blocking his visions. Unable to use his "inner eye" to find Melissa, he's forced to search for her the old-fashioned way, by interrogating everyone present at Griffin Hall. John only hopes he's smart enough to figure it out. He's terrible at finding clues and piecing them together. In fact, he's unable to recognize a clue when someone hands it to him and says "here's a clue".
