The OOBE File
by Harry Highstreet
Inspired by research about the United States military’s study on astral projection, Highstreet has written a
fictional account of an army private’s out-of-body-experience (OOBE). Fluctuating between comical and
frightening, drifting between the physical and the spiritual, and jumping back and forth between chapters
written in the first and third person, this science fiction mystery will keep readers guessing until the final
chapter.
When Private Wright unexpectedly leaves his body behind while on guard duty and goes off exploring the
spiritual realm in his astral form, he never expects to get caught, much less start a dangerous chain reaction
that puts the country’s security at risk. Yet that’s exactly what happens when he meets another astral form
named Roger, who may or may not be a friend. Later, while trying to find his missing body, Wright meets the
spirit of Cora, a decidedly friendly astral form, with whom he would like to begin a physical relationship.
Despite the heavy subjects of physical danger, security threats, and military spies, the author keeps things
light with frequent references to Private Wright’s bodily functions intruding upon his astral form. The change
in narration from chapter to chapter keeps the story moving along at a brisk rate. The book has limited
characters, limited locations, and limited subject matter, but fully explores the areas within these limitations.
For anyone interested in astral projection and altered states of consciousness, The OOBE File provides an
intriguing and entertaining read. |
