Tensions
between humans and Fae are building, and it doesn't help when
Mercy and her werewolf husband, Adam, and the pack have to fight
a troll before it can eat a city full of people. The werewolves
draw a line in the sand, and blood is going to be spilled as
the Fae cross it again and again. This was a book where both
the good guys and the bad guys were interesting and multidimensional
with lots of folks falling in the gray between. The wolf pack
dynamics were interesting and there's a moment where I suspect
long-time fans of the series probably felt like standing up
and cheering for Adam. I also enjoyed the way the author explored
the idea of power: who holds power and how one defends it. I
sometimes become frustrated when I jump into a book deep into
a series where I haven't visited in a while, but the dive into
this one was seamless. The author drops you right into action,
but without losing clarity. Even newcomers can follow the characters
and recognize the stakes right off. And I truly loved what Briggs
is doing with Underhill (fairyland) in this book. It's not a
long book, but if you want something quick to read but completely
satisfying, this is a great one to pick up.
