Carlos
Delacruz died and came back, just not all the way. His grey
skin and connection to ghosts is just part of his problems.
He's also grieving the loss of a love who left him while pregnant
with his child. His distraction is getting in the way of his
job, keeping the living and the dead separate. But that's
getting harder and something very old is trying to change
the game for the worse. The author brings a fantastic voice
to this dark, edgy urban fantasy without giving in to a completely
grim, hopelessness that so often takes over this kind of book.
The plot is action packed and rocked by completely believable,
yet totally unexpected twists and turns. If you like hardcore
heroes, Daniel José Older brings them on in spades.
Though I haven't yet read the first book in this series, you
can be sure I will -- It's too good to pass up.
