In this tenth
book in the Jane Yellowrock series, Jane must keep the piece
between witches and vampires in New Orleans, but not everyone
wants the unprecedented peace accords to succeed. As she uses
her skinwalker abilities to track down whoever is trying to
prevent the peace through mysterious magics, she must also
deal with the changes those same magics are making in her.
As always, one of the huge strengths of this book (and the
entire series) is Jane and her relationships with the people
she loves. They're complicated and often messy, but so well
realized and believable. I loved seeing more of Jane's goddaughter,
Angie, and her potential for good and for scary. The pace
is fast without being overly simple or convenient. The cast
of the series is big and growing, but I never found myself
confused about who (or what) Jane was dealing with in each
scene, which takes some skilled writing. For fans of the series,
this is another winner. For those just picking the series
up, you won't be lost if you grab this one first, but do yourself
a favor and start at the beginning. You'll be in for a treat.
