THE
CHILDREN OF WRATH This is the latest outing for the Renshai in this popular series. Tae has risen from being a poor street urchin to being a Prince but he is still not happy with his lot. There are many new responsibilities to his exalted rank and now he and his friends have to break the Dark Elves’ curse of sterility on the humans. Then there is the mythical Pica to be found, not to mention the lost sapphire. As if this was not enough he also has to make sure that Rascal does not get them all into trouble. While al this questing is going on Colbey Calistinsson waits in Valhalla and has a mighty task of his own to perform - making sure that the Gods do not shatter the fragile balance of the Worlds. Entertaining stuff in the grand old sword and sorcery tradition that also means that it is rather on the wordy side. Nothing new here to amaze or delight the jaded reader but plenty to enjoy nonetheless. Reichert has created some appealing characters here and given them plenty to occupy them in a well-realised world. Fans of the series will find much to please them – new readers will need to read the earlier novels first. |
