First off let me say
that "Phoenix Rising" is one of the best books I have ever read.
It is told from the personal perspective of a person that lives with manic
depression where as other books are written from a clinical point of view.
More than likely, by a doctor that has never been through depression and
cannot understand the reality of what it does to the person that has it.
Tony Schwarz suffered with severe bouts of depression -- each one becoming
worse that the last. He was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Tony felt
that, by writing this book, he could help other people with the same disorder
and help their family understand how to help their loved ones.
Tony writes of 12 Golden
Keys to unlock your depression. He developed the program by combining
his spiritual principals with the 12-steps, first founded by Alcoholics
Anonymous. To do this, he combined each step with holistic healthy habits.
He also stresses the importance of finding a good doctor and the correct
anti-depressant medicine.
I found "Phoenix
Rising" to be a very candid, open, and honest portrayal of a person's
battle with depression. I think this book is extraordinary. Thank you
Mikel Schwartz and family for bringing this issue to the forefront to
help others. Your father would be very proud.
