The Right Questions
Ten Essential Questions to Guide You to an Extraordinary Life
By Debbie Ford

Debbie Ford has the right questions to ask yourself if your life isn’t going in the direction you want it to go. One of those questions is, what am I doing to hinder myself? Are you engaging in behavior that defeats your purpose?

When you make a choice that leads you in the direction from which you just came, you are not going to achieve your goals any time soon. For example, if your goal is to lose weight, celebrating eating a healthy breakfast and lunch with a burger, fries and a chocolate sundae for dinner will put more weight on than you took off. Or, if your goal is to pay off all your debts, spending beyond your means, buying things that you don’t need, will not get the bills paid.

All of us do things like this. The only way you can break the habit is to ask yourself if this choice will get you what you want in life or move you farther from it. Why do you feel the need for self-destructive behavior?

Fear is usually the reason. All of us fear failing. Whether that fear is from parental programming, self-doubt, or fear of people not like us, it is there. Ms. Ford has many ways of pinpointing the source of that fear. Once you know what is standing in your way, you will find it easier to remove the obstacles.

I learned from this book, even though I disagree with some of the terminology and the idea of putting yourself first. I do agree with the idea that everyone should try to follow his or her dreams. If you want to do something with your life, develop your talents; don’t let the naysayers keep you from trying.
