The Clear Skin Prescription
The Perricone Program to Eliminate Problem Skin

By Nicholas Perricone, M.D.

"..Good old fashioned common sense coupled with up-to-the minute medical information."

Acne, the skin disorder that plagues all ages, can lower self-esteem, inhibit social functioning and, in adulthood, affect careers. Most dermatologists rely upon tried, but not always true treatments. However, Dr. Nicholas Perricone is dedicated to disproving fallacies and creating effective treatment.

In his latest work, The Clear Skin Prescription: The Perricone Program to Eliminate Problem Skin, Dr. Perricone describes acne as a systemic inflammatory disease. His first chapter, "The ABC's of Acne," explains the anatomy of the lesion, also illustrated in the book's center, and probable causes. He discusses the pros and cons of topical medications and hormone therapies often prescribed by dermatologists. He shows how stress, genetics, cosmetics and diet-yes, diet-also play key roles in outbreaks.

The first of his three-tiered approach covers which foods are and are not conducive to healthy skin. He challenges readers to follow "The Three-Day Skin-Clear Jump-Start Program". After three days, the visual decrease in blemishes and redness plus the increased physical energy should encourage completion of the 28 day diet. If so, the book also provides tempting gourmet recipes by executive chef Bernard Guillas.

The second tier addresses the roles played by nutrients and supplements. The author explains the benefits, symptoms of deficiency, intake requirements and food sources for each vitamin and mineral healthy skin needs.

Tier three concentrates on topical therapies. Naturally, acne treatment requires external attention, too. Most of Dr. Perricone's recommendations for toning and spot treatments are available over the counter.

The Clear Skin Prescription: The Perricone Program to Eliminate Problem Skin provides a comprehensive guide to adult onset acne. Dr. Perricone's devotion to his specialty and support for his patients is highlighted by the case studies and frequently asked questions. The section on yoga, complete with illustrations, is a definite bonus. Plus the good doctor gets extra points for including "The Joy of Chocolate." Considering the cost of over the counter acne treatments, The Clear Skin Prescription: The Perricone Program to Eliminate Problem Skin is a wise investment for everyone with acne.
