Have
Your Cake and Eat It Too!
The
ABC's for Lifelong Health and Fitness
By
Mario Hostios Illustrated by Tim Warchocki
In
today's concerns about obesity, even in our children, Have Your
Cake and Eat It Too! offers some solutions and suggestions
that are geared to the entire family. The delightful cartoon illustrations
make it very appealing to children. It is, as the author states,
"not a diet, but a lifestyle." The book incorporates both
healthy eating habits and a very manageable exercise routine into
steps that every person can do, at home. You don't have to make
daily treks to the gym, and you can do the workouts together.
Just
a few of the important data contained in the book are the following:
The
average child gets less than 15 min. of vigorous activity a day
The average child consumes at least 20 ounces of soda pop a day
9 out of 10 parents think their children are fit, when only 1
out of 3 are
Children are 40% less active than they were 30 years ago
Only about 22% of American adults engage in regular, sustained
physical activity for at least 30 minutes, 5 times a week.
75% of Americans are regularly dehydrated
37% believe they are experiencing hunger when they are actually
thirsty.
Lack of water is the #1 cause of daytime fatigue
Muscle mass typically declines by 30% or more betweent he ages
of 35 and 65. Weight training will prevent this loss.
If
you made a New Year's resolution to "get in shape," this
is the perfect way to do it. Oh, and a side note: the pictures of
the author, who is a trainer himself, are pretty easy on the eyes,
too! Highly recommended!
