It's Called A Breakup Because It's Broken
The Smart Girl's Break-up Buddy

by Greg Behrendt and Amiira Ruotola-Behrendt

Your soulmate's declaration that you're not the one pulverizes your heart and dissolves your dreams. You flounder in the painful world of why, what if, and what now. In It's Called A Breakup Because It's Broken, authors Greg Behrendt and Amiira Ruotola-Behrendt help you heal that seemingly endless pain and start your new and happier life.

Their advice divides the pain and healing into two parts: The Breakup and The Breakover. Readers' polls and letters seem to cover the range of emotions after the breakup. Do you continually call him because after all, he's your best friend? Do you plan accidental meetings knowing that he'll regret leaving you when he sees how hot you look? While the subject, the pain of rejection, is serious, Behrendt and Ruotola-Behrendt pepper their advice with lots of humor. The reasons not to break into his email, his phone messages, or his house will protect you from further heartache. "Dear Greg" letters share feelings of heartache, depression, overeating, and loneliness. "Psycho Confessionals" feature the bizarre behaviors and thoughts of the newly heartbroken. Behrendt and Ruotola-Behrendt top advice with "The Best Worst News" and "Awesome Thoughts". The Breakover journey takes you through several stages. The book asks for some interaction such as taking care of yourself, finding a break-up buddy, starting a journal, and the "He-Tox".

Married authors, Behrendt and Ruotola-Behrendt, share their personal lows and highs with open hilarity. Their humor made me laugh out loud. It's Called A Break-Up Because It's Broken aims advice toward women with a bonus chapter for advice to men. It minimally touches on the problems with break-ups or divorces with children. I like that the book directs readers to professional help if depression, obsession, or another emotion takes center stage. I recommend this humorous book to young and hip women who need a straight-shooting guide to repair their heart.
