When The Impossible Happens
Adventures in Non-Ordinary Reality

by Stanislov Grof

Dr. Stanislav Grof, after graduating from medical school and volunteering in an LSD experiment, developed a unique and profound desire to study the possibilities of different states of the conscious mind. This passion for the profound spanned five decades and included experiments in the mind-altering drug, LSD, as well as holotropic breathing exercises, in which the altered state of mind allows one to relive past memories. Through these experiments, Grof has concluded there is no such thing as coincidence. During his own involvement, as well as assisting with other volunteers, he and his participants have discovered their own unique experiences in which they relive their descent through the birth canal.

Grof’s descriptions of transcending the known is compelling in relating the journeys of mind travel volunteers, and brings a very personal story to each account. These experiences have answered questions and brought a peaceful perspective to the lives of many people, including Gurus, Indians, and Hollywood star, Natalie Wood.

When the Impossible Happens is actually a story about possibilities. The possibility to travel beyond one’s own consciousness and discover another plane in which our minds travel. This other state is the primal consciousness in all of us. In altering the state of mind we call our conscious mind, we are able to discover details about our own entry into the state in which we now live. Questions are answered through the past life experience and in doing so, we find reasons for our feelings and why we travel the courses we do. Dr. Grof’s book definitely gives us a new perspective on the present and opens possibilities to spiritual knowledge we all seek to find. Read this work with an open and searching mind and you will find answers to some of your most haunting questions. It should be read when you can delve into it without distraction. It’s a real thinker. For more on the subject, read The Holotropic Mind, The Three Levels of Human Consciousness and How They Shape Our Lives.
